London’s Marlborough Street, 3:53PM. Winter solstice. Sun just below the horizon.
The black cab disappears behind you in the fog. Department store windows are hazy yellow. Carried by wind-gusted mist, the light twists like the woven pattern of your hand-carved hoop earrings. Hurrying into the warmth, you see it glint in gold at her ear. She likes jewellery with stories, too. You exchange a momentary smile.
