During this time, the Roman Emperor, St. Constantine, transformed the empire into a Christian state and established Byzantium's city of Constantinople as the new capital, resulting in an amalgamation of classical Greek, Roman, and Christian cultures that led to unprecedented accomplishments in art, architecture, and jewellery-making.
