The Dioscuri are the twin Gods of St. Elmo’s Fire, the crackling electricity that appears out of the ether above oceans and mountains. They wear wreaths of stars, and are the lords of horses, and protectors of guests and travellers. Born as mortal princes, they were known for their battles against giants, and their kindness and generosity. As a consequence one twin was offered immortality on his death, but he refused to take this gift for himself, and chose instead to share it with his brother. They exist in the heavens as the constellation Gemini, appearing in the skies for only six months of the year, which represents the divine compromise that they made to split their immortality between them, spending half the year on the Earth and half in the celestial home of the Gods.
